The-Farming-Year-September Chestnut Mill

The Farming Year - September

The summer is ending and with September comes a renewed effort to get a range of crops harvested.  Once harvested the fields will be ploughed and cultivated as the start of the new arable cycle gets into full swing.  Winter wheat, oilseed rape and barley crops are drilled / sown.

On the social calendar, some young farmers clubs will host ploughing matches

Lambs born in the spring are still in their weaning phase, taken off their mothers milk and moved onto solid food.  Once done livestock auctions for those the farmer wants to move on become the main focus.

Of course with the end of summer and the approach of Autumn the colours on the farm also start to dramatically change with widespread introduction of reds, browns, yellows, and golds.
