The Farming Year - August

The peak of the summer months, August on the farm is very much a repetition of July.  Silage making is at the forefront and combine harvesters are pretty much non stop int eh arable fields.

August is also the new start of the arable cycle as once fields have been harvested they are ploughed and cultivated ready for the next round of cereal crops.

The spring lambs begin to be weaned and this will continue into September, then moved back into the fields.  This grazing is often on fields after the silage process has been completed and is referred to as aftermath grazing.
